Bayer has stopped all advertising and promotional activities in Russia and Belarus, and has announced they will not pursue any new business opportunities either.
They are one of many companies altering their operations to show solidarity and support for Ukraine.
So what?
Bayer has already supplied essential crop inputs for Russia’s growing season in 2022, but has released a statement explaining it has not made a decision about 2023 crop inputs which is dependent upon the political situation.
Russia is the “world’s largest exporter of wheat… [and] a leading producer of other grains and sunflower oil”. Many nations rely on Russia for these goods and so the impact of Bayer’s decision on food supplies will undoubtedly have international impacts.
