Patent filed by Rolls-Royce for electric jet engine

Industry giant Rolls-Royce has filed a patent for a new type of electric jet engine, which works by using an AC generator to produce an electrical current which is then passed to two sets of propulsors providing thrust. It envisages that future planes will be powered by electric currents and generators, instead of jet fuel.
