The war in Ukraine and its impacts on Europe’s agricultural industry

It is commonly known that Russia’s invasion Ukraine has negatively impacted the agricultural industry. To cope with the disruption, the European Commission has asked its members to adapt their Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

So what?

In the wake of this, certain rules that were implemented to protect nature have been relaxed – such as planting crops in “ecologically sensitive areas”.

One can hope that CAP’s policies will return to ‘normal’ once the conflict is over, but will the damage and impacts to the environment be reverseable too?
