Mumbai moves beyond the existing national and state level climate action plans to launch a city-level climate action plan. The Mumbai Climate Action Plan (MCAP) which will be completed in two months’ time after public consultation will focus on six thematic areas that will contribute to the city’s resilience.

Mumbai, a coastal city, is vulnerable to sea-level rise, erratic precipitation, and extreme climate events as climate change intensifies.
After joining C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group in December 2020, the city moved forward with drafting the MCAP, in line with the guidelines and standards of the C40. The MCAP will focus on six thematic areas to initiate sector-specific strategies for climate mitigation and adaptation. In conjunction with the vulnerability assessment that has been completed, these measures would contribute to Mumbai’s resilience in a changing climate.
