Male MPs given vests to mimic hot flushes during the menopause

Menopausal support service ‘Over the Bloody Moon’ and pharmaceutical company ‘Theramex’ visited male MPs to raise awareness about the menopause and its effects.

The men were given a ‘Menovest’ – an item of clothing fitted with heated pads to mimic the often unbearable hot flushes experienced by women during their menopause.

So what?

Whilst the MPs experience can be viewed as comical, they definitely left the session with a deeper understanding of what their colleagues might be going through – and why it’s important that infrastructure is in place to support people.

It’s obvious that Over the Bloody Moon will not be able to reach every employer, but how can we listen to what they’re teaching from afar? How can we ensure the future of the workplace is an inclusive and supportive one that encompasses a range of wellbeing needs? Hopefully the efforts of these two organisations will help to break down stigma and barriers, whilst catalysing a shift workplace culture and the narrative around the menopause.
