Microsoft Teams will include a metaverse with 3D avatars

Microsoft announces that their work collaboration platform “Teams” will become a metaverse, called “Mesh for Teams”. The platform will include 3D avatars through which users will be together virtually as if they were physically in the same place.

So what?

Thanks to the metaverse, it will no longer be necessary to be in person at the sites to hold meetings. We could even, perhaps, feel how we hold hands.  Business and pleasure trips could become be a luxury for the few.  Work in any company in the world, anywhere in the world may become possible.  Furthermore, social activities like visiting friends, sick relatives, or going to the cinema may also be done from home.  This could have profound effects on society in ways unimaginable today.
