In light of the economic depression from Covid-19, Indonesia has set out an economic stimulus package that weakens environmental and social safeguards.

So what?

We are seeing a polarisation between governments and leaders who are ‘building back better’ and others who are taking a so-called safer route of stimulating economic recovery that puts millions in a place of increased precariousness despite increasing a country’s GDP. That Indonesia, the world’s 4th largest country is taking this path is a significant development to track.
