Microsoft launches an accessible low-code programming language

Microsoft announced a new low-code programming language based on Excel formula language.  The new programming language, called Power Fx, will “become the standard for writing logic customization” across Microsoft’s Power Platform.  The company hopes that by empowering a mostly-business user base of the Power Platform to use their existing Excel understanding to programme with this language, and by making it open source, that the new language will become defacto for a certain set of use cases.

So what?

Following the trend of programming becoming simpler and, therefore, open to more people, this step by Microsoft could prove a step change towards democratized programming.

Whether or not Power Fx becomes a widely utilized programming language or not, the trend towards simpler and more accessible programming languages will certainly continue.  What effects might this democratization of programming bring?   Could this bring increased demographic representation in the programming and developing community? If everyone could programme, would they?  And, what might it mean if everyone did?
