US Treasury to accelerate the Harriet Tubman $20 bill redesign

After plans originally instigated in 2016 to put Harriet Tubman on the face of the $20 bill were shelved by President Trump, Biden’s Treasury Department are now looking to speed up the process. Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist, who led hundreds of black slaves to freedom via the the Underground Railroad and helped to ensure the final defeat of slavery in the US.

So what?

The change of the $20 bill to reflect the diversity in American history, is a substantial symbol of Biden’s ambitious plans to address racial inequality. This could be the start of a new era in confronting systemic racism and driving racial equality.
