Signal of change / Walmart purchases virtual reality start-up to reshape shopping

By Shola Powell / 30 Mar 2018

Walmart has recently acquired Spatialand, a virtual reality startup, as part of its ongoing strategy to develop technology in order to reshape the shopping experience both in stores and online. Spatialand is working with Walmart's Silicon Valley-based tech incubator, Store No. 8, to develop more effective retail technology for the next decade. Spatialand creates software to transform already created content into an immersive retail experience.

So what?

Investing in companies such as Spatialand and Store No. 8, which is also developing a personal shopping service and a cashier-free store, Walmart is driving the reinvention of the consumer experience. By combining virtual reality with retail, how will consumers' shopping experiences become more efficient, effective and enjoyable?
