HAMM, Germany (AFP) – A Peruvian farmer won a small but significant legal victory on Monday (Nov 13) when a German court said his appeal against energy giant RWE, which he accuses of contributing to climate change that is threatening his Andean home, had merit.

Three Californian communities have launched legal action against some of the world’s biggest oil, gas and coal companies, seeking compensation for the current and future costs of adapting to sea level rises linked to climate change.

San Francisco, Oakland sue major oil companies over rising seas

The cities of San Francisco and Oakland in California are suing a group of the world’s largest oil companies over the role they have played in climate change. The two suits claim that the group, which includes Chevron, BP, ExxonMobil and Shell, produced greenhouse gases that have led to a sea level rise and did so knowledgeably.
